Michigan Alpacas at Snow Dancer Ranch
The SDR huacaya alpaca breeding program is built around the
full Peruvian alpaca genetics of proven grandsires
and granddams imported into the United States in the 1990's.
The goal is to produce world class fiber on well conformed
and healthy alpacas. Fine fiber and 100% comfort factor is
our first priority (quality before quantity).

Sollocotá Import
Tendu is a 1995 beige import from the Sollocotta Region in
Peru. We have no information on her sire and dam as is true
with most imports. When she arrived at Maplewood Farm, Dr.
Jim Vickers rated her a "#8", and she became part
of MWF's foundation herd. In that time, she was bred to Augusto,
Chaparral, and Bravado, and produced award winning crias.
In July of 2002, Tendu became the first production female
for Snow Dancer Ranch by giving birth to a male cria sired
by Catero (an Augusto son). Tendu has proven to be a "hands
off" delivery specialist, providing ample colostrum and
milk for her young, and unconditional care in their early
months. She has deliverd 5 crias for us, one was a bay black
female named Tempo that sold for $29,000 at the 2006 Peruvian
Classic Sale. Tendu was bred back to the same sire that produced
Tempo for 2007, and recently birthed a full bay black brother
to Tempo.
For some variety, I decided to breed her back to Tupelo,
a bay black Silver Cesario son owned by Maplewood Farm.
Female Huacaya, Bred Maiden
Birthdate: 6/4/2004
Heritage: Full Peruvian, 1/4 Accoyo
ARI #: 1060270
Color: White
Maggie
was added at the end of 2004 to the SDR foundation herd. Maggie
has a superior white fleece background (Dracula grand daughter
from her Sire's side). Her Peruvian Sire Beligado (white)
is an All American Futurity Reserve Grand Champion. Her Dam
Malu (white), a 1994 Peruvian Import, is a proven foundation
animal in Maplewood Farm's high quality breeding program.
Maggie delivered her first cria, an impressive 19 lb white
male sired by Accoyo Chaparral, on July 3rd. We like this
5/8 Accoyo male and are looking forward to showing him next
year. Maggie is a natural mother with lots of milk and tolerates
our presence near her cria.
Since Maggie is such a big girl (170 lbs), we went out looking
for a big stud and decided to use Lord Stanley (239 lbs!)
Lord Stanley is a brown Conan son, and 6X color champion.
He is owned by Autumn Alpacas, LLC. This should prove to be
an interesting combination.

Billie's
background is rich in color (Silver Cesario grand daughter
from the Sire's side, and a Valeroso grand daughter from her
Dam's side). She also has the great fiber characteristics
that we are breeding for, fineness and 100% comfort factor.
Bille delivered her first cria on Mother's Day! Her first
cria is a rose grey/fancy female. Her name is "A Fine
Romance". Her 24 hr IgG came back at 2084 ng/ml.
Billie has been bred back to our award winning Augusto grandson,
Independance.
